Mumbai has the highest number of Internet users in India. Mumbai is the top city with most Internet users in India, followed by Delhi and Kolkata. Mumbai has over 16.4 million Internet users in the country, Delhi has 12.15 million Internet users and Kolkata has 6.27 million Internet users. Bangalore and Chennai ranks at fourth and fifth positions with 5.99 million and 5.58 million Internet users respectively.
The findings were revealed by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) and IMRB-India. Delhi registered the highest growth of Internet users, a 50 per cent year over year growth. Mumbai ranked second with 37 per cent y-o-y growth, while Bangalore (36 per cent) ranked third. Hyderabad and Pune, jointly ranked at fourth while Kolkata and Ahmedabad, jointly ranked at fifth position. However, Chennai registered the lowest growth rate among the top eight Indian cities, just 24 per cent.
The report also outlines that the top four metros in India have a 23 per cent penetration of Internet Users in India. Among the smaller metros with a population of more than 1 million, Surat, Jaipur, Lucknow, Vadodara and Nagpur are the top five cities with highest number of internet users.
The small metros constitute 11% of the overall Internet users in India, with top five small metros comprising 6% of the total Internet users in India.
