Mozilla says, “Running sponsored content in Tiles is results-based, not surveillance-based. We do not allow tracking beacons or code in Tiles. We are not collecting, or providing them with, the data about you that most digital ad networks do.”
For users with no browsing history, with a new installation, they will see Directory Tiles offering ads. These ads are the collection of suggesting useful sites. For users who already have a history in their browser, they will see the Enhanced Tiles upon the existing new tab page.
Remove Firefox Ad Tiles
There are two ways to remove Firefox’s new ads on the New Tab page:
Disable the ads in Firefox New tab page
To disable the ads in Firefox New tab page, open a new tab. Click on the Settings gear icon in the top right corner. Click on Classic, instead of the default Enhanced.

Using about:config settings
There is another way to remove Ad Tiles from Firefox by accessing about:config settings. about:config features some of the most advanced settings for the browser.
Type about:config in Firefox address URL and hit Enter. Search for browser.newtabpage.enhanced preference and double-click on it to change its status to False. This will display a blank New tab page.
Once you are done, clear the Firefox cache & history and restart the Firefox web browser.
