How to set up an out-of-office vacation auto-reply in Gmail. You can use Gmail’s vacation responder to set out-of-office auto-reply or Gmail holiday vacation auto-reply.
This is a great feature which can be used to auto-reply to all Gmail messages when you’re out of town. Read below to find out how to use Gmail’s vacation responder to auto respond to all emails:
Set Up an Out-of-Office Auto-Reply in Gmail
You can automatically reply when out of office or on vacation. To enable Gmail’s vacation responder:
- Open Gmail.
- Click the gear in the top right.
- Select Settings.
- Scroll down to the Vacation responder section (stay in the “General” tab).
- Select Vacation responder on.
- Fill in the date range, subject, and message.
- Click Save Changes at the bottom of the page.
You can also limit who can see your vacation response:
If you don’t want everyone who emails you to know that you’re away from your mail then check the box next to Only send a response to people in my Contacts
You can set conditions in Gmail (Google Apps). You will see an option to only send a response to people in your domain. When you check this option, only people who are in your contacts and your domain will receive the automatic response.
Turn off or edit your vacation responder
Once the vacation responder is on, a banner across the top of your Gmail shows the subject of the vacation response message. Click the End now link in the banner to turn off the vacation responder. You can also click Vacation Settings to edit the vacation response.
Please note that the vacation responder starts at 12:00 AM on the start date and ends at 11:59 PM on the end date, unless you end it earlier. The messages classified as spam and messages addressed to a mailing list you subscribe to will not receive a vacation response.
