1. Xtreme Download Manager (XDM)

The XDM – Xtreme Download Manager is the most popular file download manager for Ubuntu systems. XDM has a similar interface to IDM (Internet Download Manager). XDM supports resume capability. You can also download YouTube videos using XDM. You don’t have to install any other YouTube downloader. XDM has an inbuilt feature to download YouTube Videos. Just copy the url and paste it and click download. To install XDM – Xtreme Download Manager, open Terminal and run the following commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:noobslab/apps
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install xdman

2. DownThemAll

DownThemAll is a Firefox Plugin. It’s one of the most widely used Firefox plugin as a download manager. It is very fast and very effective. It is said that DownThemAll can speed your download speed up to 400%.

3. uGet

uGet is another free and open source cross platform download manager. uGet download manager is available for Windows and Ubuntu systems. sudo add-apt-repository ppa:plushuang-tw/uget-stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install uget

4. MultiGet

MultiGet is another free and open source download manager for Linux. MultiGet features resuming any downloading file later. It supports HTTP and FTP protocols. It also support SOCKS 4,4a,5 proxy, ftp proxy, http proxy.

To install MultiGet download manager, simply run the following command in Terminal:

sudo apt-get install multiget

5. FlareGet

FlareGet is a one of the most popular and advanced file download manager for Linux systems. It comes with Multi-thread support, intelligent file management, Support for auto-grabbing the URLs and auto-grabbing videos from Youtube. The FlareGet is available in 18 different languages.

Install FlareGet Download Manager on 32 Bit Systems


sudo apt-get install gdebi
wget flareget.com/files/flareget/debs/i386/flareget_4.2-92_i386.deb
sudo gdebi flareget_4.2-92_i386.deb

Install FlareGet Download Manager on 64 Bit Systems


sudo apt-get install gdebi
wget flareget.com/files/flareget/debs/amd64/flareget_4.2-92_amd64.deb
sudo gdebi flareget_4.2-92_amd64.deb

Uninstall FlareGet Download Manager

Run the following command to uninstall and remove FlareGet Download Manager.

sudo apt-get remove flareget
