How to format USB drive in Linux Ubuntu 15.04, Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 14.10 and Derivatives. Here’s how to format USB Pen Drive in Ubuntu in GUI Way, using Graphical User interface.
For many users, formatting the USB pen drive is a tough task as many do it in command line mode (Terminal commands). Luckily, there is an easier way to format USB pen drive in GUI i.e Graphical User interface.
- Plugin the USB Pen Drive.
- Open Dash and type Disks. Click Disks icon. When open, you will see the Pen Drive together with the drives and partitions. See screenshot below.
- Click USB Pen Drive.
- Click on gear icon (settings) and select Format option.
- Click on Format/Erase drop down menu option.
- Under the Format sub-window, select your preference to format the Pen Drive.
- For this tutorial, I have selected “Overwrite existing data with zeroes (slow)” and “Compatible with all system and devices (FAT).”
- Once everything OK, click on Format button to start formatting.
- After few minutes, it will format the pen drive.
- Once complete, eject the Pen Drive.
