Install MuPDF PDF/XPS Viewer in Ubuntu 15.04, Ubuntu 14.04 and Ubuntu 14.10. MuPDF is a lightweight PDF and XPS viewer for Linux Ubuntu Systems.
MuPDF supports PDF 1.7 with transparency, encryption, hyperlinks, annotations, searching and more. It also reads XPS and OpenXPS documents. The renderer in MuPDF is tailored for high quality anti-aliased graphics. It renders text with metrics and spacing accurate to within fractions of a pixel for the highest fidelity in reproducing the look of a printed page on screen.
The MuPDF 1.7a version is a bugfix release. Bug fixes:
- Fixed bug that allocated too much memory when packing paths.
- Fixed EPUB font scaling bug.
- Fixed EPUB file type handling in viewers.
- Improved tolerance for broken and unsupported CSS.
Install MuPDF in Ubuntu Systems
MuPDF is available in Ubuntu repositories by default, but it won’t provide updates for MuPDF. Here’s how to install MuPDF and still get updates:
Open Terminal adn run the following commands to add the MuPDF repository:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1/apps
Now open Software Updater and check for updates. You will see MuPDF in the update list. The list will show MuPDF Only if you have a previous version installed on to your system.
If you don’t have a previous MuPDF version installed, run the following commands in Terminal to install:
sudo apt-get install mupdf mupdf-tools
Once installed, open any PDF/XPS file using MuPDF. Select the PDF file and right click on it and select open with mupdf option.
You can also set MuPDF as default PDF viewer. Open a PDF file, right click and select > Properties > Open With tab > select the MuPDF viewer from list and finally click Set as default button.
