Linux Ubuntu Systems doesn’t automatically charge an Apple device when via USB port. Luckily, there is an utility that can help. The Apple charger utility is a USB charging control utility used to enable/disable charging of an Apple device connected to USB port.
The Apple charger utility can be installed via PPA on Ubuntu Systems. The utility supports Ubuntu 15.10, Ubuntu 15.04, Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 12.04, Linux Mint 17, Elementary OS Freya, and other Ubuntu Derivatives.
The Apple devices that are supported by the Apple charger utility are:
- iPad
- iPad2
- iPad3
- iPad4
- iPad Mini
- iPod Touch 2G
- iPod Touch 3G
- iPod Touch 4G
- iPhone 3GS
- iPhone 4

How to Install Apple charger utiliy
You can download the Apple charge utility (.deb) and install it manually on Ubuntu Systems.
Download ipad charge utility (.deb)

Please select the valid OS type – 32 Bit or 64 Bit. Select i386 for 32-bit and amd64 for 64-bit Ubuntu Systems. Once downloaded, click to open the .deb package with Ubuntu Software Center and install it.
Once installed open the app, plug in your Apple device and starts charging.
