Install Shotcut video editing software on Ubuntu Linux. How to install Shotcut 16.01 on Ubuntu 15.10, Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 15.04, Ubuntu 14.10 and Derivatives, via PPA. Shotcut is a popular, open-source video editing software for Linux Ubuntu Systems.
Shotcut 16.01 is the latest version of the Shotcut video editing software. Shotcut 16.01 has been released with the following changes:
- Added Speed parameter to Properties for an audio/video clip.
- Added Properties views for track and timeline when selected. Click track head to select track; click the timeline’s cornerstone (top left block) to select the timeline.
- Added Blend mode to track properties (not available in GPU processing mode; only applies when compositing is enabled in the track header).
- Added Alpha Channel: View video filter.
- Added Alpha Channel: Adjust video filter.
- Added Chroma Key: Simple video filter.
- Added Chroma Key: Advanced video filter.
- Added Key Spill: Simple video filter.
- Added Key Spill: Advanced video filter.

Install Shotcut 16.01 On Ubuntu
Run the following commands in Terminal to install Shotcut 16.01 on Ubuntu 15.10, Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 15.04, Ubuntu 14.10 and Derivatives, via PPA:
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:haraldhv/shotcut
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install shotcut
Once installed, open the Shotcut video editor from Ubuntu Dash or Menu. If you wish to uninstall and remove Shotcut video editor, run the command given below:
$ sudo apt-get remove shotcut
