goHop, a bus pooling service in Kolkata is revolutionising mass-transit. goHop app allows users to book seats on Wi-fi-enabled minibuses that can be tracked on a map in real-time. The best part about the service is “one passenger, one seat”. They offer best-in-class services at unbeatable rates. And for those who travel too often, they can simply bookmark their favorite trips for faster bookings.
goHop.in aims to disrupt the congested public transit space by aggregating smart transport solutions with the aid of real-time tracking data using the mobile technology. Not only the app is trying to solve the basic problems faced by daily commuters in Kolkata, it is revolutionising mass-transit problems such as overcrowded buses, denial of seats, inefficient ticketing system and above all, the absence of real-time tracking data. In an estimate, there are more than 4.5 million daily commuters in Kolkata alone and 70 million daily commuters nation-wide.
goHop.in serves as a bus pooling service that utilizes the economies of mass transit. Intra city bus network smart technologies demand requirement of bus service bus pooling. During the incubation process, goHop saw itself evolve from a raw idea to a well-assessed market ready plan. With a clear vision – to commute economically and efficiently, GoHop is Kolkata’s first technology company that has received the funding from Kolkata and Mumbai based investors.
goHop App is developed by Harshit Gohil, a St. Xavier’s College commerce graduate, along with Abhirup Kar from Institute of Engineering & Management, Salt Lake, and Sanjit Roy from BP Poddar Institute of Management and Technology. The service is backed by Rohan Ganeriwala and Adarsh Khandelwal (co-founders Roads and Collegify) and Raghav Poddar (Director-The Jorehaut Tea Ltd.) The goHop app was originally launched as Hoppr, but was later renamed goHop.
Using the service is very easy. Users have to download and install the goHop app from Android Play Store. Once installed, open the goHop app and input the pick-up point and destination. The app then shows the details of the route and vehicles, including vehicle model number, legal-registration number, driver’s name and available seats and ETA at the pick-up point. The commuter can then manage his travel by tracking the vehicle in realtime on a map using the goHop app. For times when something goes wrong, the vehicle conductor will call the commuter to avoid any further confusion.
Once the ride is confirmed, a commuter is informed about the pick-up and drop points. For a hassle-free journey, the conductor’s phone number is also shared with the commuter. If at any given point one wants to cancel their journey, they can easily do the same using the App. The cancellation has a nominal charge.
