Telegram Purple 1.3.0 released, install Telegram-Purple PPA on Ubuntu Linux. Telegram Purple is a Pidgin plugin which adds support for Telegram. Telegram Purple is a Libpurple protocol plugin that adds support for the Telegram messenger. It not only adds support for Telegram to Pidgin, but it also works on Adium, Finch and other Libpurple based messengers.

Installing Telegram Purple
Ubuntu 16.04, 15.10, and 14.04 / Linux Mint 18 and 17.x users can install it by using the main WebUpd8 PPA. Add the PPA and install Telegram Purple using the following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install telegram-purple
Once installed, open the Telegram Purple from Ubuntu Dash.
Using Telegram Purple
On the first login, the current active phone number is the username, including your full country prefix. For India, this would be ‘+91’, resulting in a user name like ‘+494327639846’. Telegram will verify the username (phonenumber) by sending an automated code via SMS.
Once registered, using Telegram Purple is quiet easy. It has “Buddy List” just like in the official Telegram app. It consists of all active conversations. The best of all one can use Telegram secret chats with this plugin, they will show up as a new buddy with a ‘!’ in front of the buddy name.
