Install LibreOffice 6.1 in Ubuntu 18.04. LibreOffice 6.1.1 for Linux Ubuntu is released, for early adopters, technology enthusiasts and power users. The Document Foundation announces LibreOffice 6.1.1, targeted at early adopters, technology enthusiasts and power users, which provides over 120 bug and regression fixes for the recently announced LibreOffice 6.1.
LibreOffice users can benefit from some of the interesting new features introduced in August:
- Colibre, the new icon theme for Windows based on Microsoft’s icon design guidelines;
- The reworked image handling feature, which is significantly faster and smoother thanks to a new graphic manager and an improved image lifecycle;
- The reorganization of Draw menus with the addition of a new Page menu;
- The new Online Help pages enriched with text and example files to guide the users through features;
- Several improvements to all modules of LibreOffice Online, with changes to the user interface to make it more appealing.
Apart from these, LibreOffice 6.1 comes with many changes and UI improvements, such as:
- Dialog windows now use native GTK3 interfaces on Linux.
- Colibre introduced as default under Windows
- Elementary is now the default icon theme on Gnome based desktop environments
- High contrast theme is now Sifr. Legacy theme hicontrast available as extension.
- Icon themes Industrial and Oxygen removed because of missing maintenance and SVG support (made available as extension).
- Karasa Jaga icon theme added, originally created for Sundara OS, heavily inspired (and derived) from (now discontinued) Oxygen icon theme.
Install LibreOffice
To install LibreOffice 6.1 in Ubuntu 18.04 Syetms, run the following commands:
sudo apt-get update
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/ppa
Now open the Software Updater app from Ubuntu Dash where you can see the LibreOffice 6.1 upgrade options available. Click on Install Now button to install and update LibreOffice 6.1 . Also run the following command :
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
Now restart the system to apply the changes.
