Ubuntu 24.04 LTS includes Linux kernel 6.8, the GNOME 46 desktop environment, Mesa 24.0 graphics stack, Raspberry Pi 5 support, Netplan 1.0, Python 3.12, Ruby 3.2, PHP 8.3 and Go 1.22, and an all-new graphical firmware update tool called Firmware Updater, Netplan 1.0 for state-of-the-art network management and an updated Ubuntu font.
Ubuntu 24.04 LTS delivers the latest Linux 6.8 Kernel. The Kernel 6.8 brings an improved syscall performance, nested KVM support on ppc64el, and access to the newly landed bcachefs filesystem. Not only this, the newly released Ubuntu 24.04 LTS also enables frame pointers by default on all 64-bit architectures for a new and enhanced troubleshooting and optimisation.
Ubuntu 24.04 LTS includes Python 3.12, Ruby 3.2, PHP 8.3 and Go 1.22 with additional focus dedicated to the developer experience for .NET, Java and Rust.
Another most notable feature of Ubuntu 24.04 is the “new management tools for Ubuntu Desktop and WSL”. The Ubuntu 24.04 LTS Desktop now uses the same installer technology as Ubuntu Server. With this feature the users can now use image customisation tools like autoinstall and cloud-init to create tailored experiences.

NOTE
Ubuntu 24.04 is a LTS release and hence it will be supported for 5 years, until June 2029. Each Ubuntu LTS is maintained for 10 years total: 5 years of standard support + 5 years of ESM. Whereas the interim releases are maintained for 9 months.
The users of Ubuntu 23.10 “Mantic Minotaur” will be offered an automatic upgrade to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS “Noble Numbat”. Whereas, Ubuntu 22.04 LTS “Jammy Jellyfish” users can upgrade to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS ‘Noble Numbat’ on August 15th, 2024.
