How To Record Videos & Take Photos, Via Webcam on Linux Ubuntu Systems

Guvcview 2.0.3 Webcam Software lets you record videos or take photos via the webcam on Linux Ubuntu. Guvcview enables the users to record videos or take photos via the webcam, set up the video and audio codecs to be used, or set the audio input. Guvcview is a popular open-source photo and video taking app that can capture video or images along with audio on Linux Ubuntu Systems. Once installed, one can easily control and customise the captured images and videos.

Guvcview 2.0.3 is the latest version of the Guvcview application. Guvcview 2.0.3 has been recently released with the following changes:

  • Add Qt5 interface (–enable-qt5)
  • fix ‘-n’ option (don’t save frame when photo countdown reaches 0)
  • restore exit_on_term option
  • use AC_SYS_LARGEFILE m4 macro for enabling Large File Support (LFS) on 32 bit systems

Install Guvcview 2.0.3 on Ubuntu

Run the following commands in Terminal to install Guvcview V4L2 video viewer and image viewer and capture software for Linux Systems:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:pj-assis/testing
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install guvcview

Once installed, the Guvcview application can be opened from Ubuntu Dash or Menu:

If you aren’t happy with the application and wish to uninstall the Guvcview from Linux Ubuntu Systems, run the command given below:

$ sudo apt-get remove guvcview
