Install Papirus Icon Theme On Ubuntu Linux Systems

By Sourabh / March 8, 2017 Category: How To, Ubuntu

Install Papirus Icon Theme on Ubuntu Linux Systems. Papirus is a free and open source SVG icon theme for Linux systems, based on Paper with a few extras like (hardcode-tray support, kde-color-scheme support, libreoffice icon theme, filezilla theme, smplayer themes …) and other modifications. Papirus Icon is derived from Sam Hewitt’s Paper Icon Theme. The icon theme is designed to work with Unity, GNOME, Cinnamon and other GTK+ based desktop environments. The theme is available for GTK and KDE.

Installation Method 1

To install on Ubuntu 16.10, Ubuntu 16.04 and other Ubuntu Derivatives, run the following commands in a new Terminal:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:papirus/papirus
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install papirus-gtk-icon-theme

Once downloaded and installed, you can use the downloaded Ubuntu theme. Use any of the following method:

  1. Extract or move the theme to usr/share//themes directory. For security reasons, Themes folder is restricted to use. Luckily, you can also create a folder in your Home directory (name it .theme) and extract the zip archive (downloaded theme) there.
  2. Use the theme via Ubuntu Tweak Tool. Open Ubuntu Tweak Tool and go to the Tweaks tab, and select the Theme option. Choose the theme you wish to use from the list.

Installation Method 2

ROOT directory

wget -qO- https://raw.githubusercontent.com/PapirusDevelopmentTeam/papirus-icon-theme/master/install-papirus-root.sh | sh

HOME directory for GTK

wget -qO- https://raw.githubusercontent.com/PapirusDevelopmentTeam/papirus-icon-theme/master/install-papirus-home-gtk.sh | sh

HOME directory for KDE

wget -qO- https://raw.githubusercontent.com/PapirusDevelopmentTeam/papirus-icon-theme/master/install-papirus-home-kde.sh | sh

Remove

wget -qO- https://raw.githubusercontent.com/PapirusDevelopmentTeam/papirus-icon-theme/master/remove-papirus.sh | sh

Please note that the Papirus icon theme now supports Hardcode-Tray script. To get Papirus to work right with Hardcode-Tray, use the hardcode-tray option –conversion-tool Inkscape:

hardcode-tray --conversion-tool Inkscape

or:

hardcode-tray -ct Inkscape
