How To Install SMPlayer 14.9 On Ubuntu 14.10, Ubuntu 14.04 & Ubuntu 12.04

How to install SMPlayer 14.9 on Ubuntu 14.10, Ubuntu 14.04 and Ubuntu 12.04. SMPlayer is a free media player for Linux Ubuntu systems with built-in codecs that can play virtually all video and audio formats. SMPlayer is a front-end media player for DVD and VCD playback.

SMPlayer can play Youtube videos and it also includes a handy tool which allows to search for Youtube videos. The best part, it can resume a closed movie from the video-scene it was closed. SMPlayer can search and download subtitles from opensubtitles.org.

The latest version available is SMPlayer 14.9, which comes with support for mpv and a few fixes for Youtube.

Install DVD VCD Player on Ubuntu


SMPlayer-ubuntu


sudo add-apt-repository ppa:rvm/smplayer
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install smplayer

To remove (uninstall) the smplayer, run the following code:

sudo apt-get remove smplayer

The same commands can also be used to install SMPlayer 14.9 on Linux Mint and Ubuntu Derivatives.
