Upgrade Cinnamon 2.6 on Ubuntu. How to install Cinnamon 2.6 Desktop Environment on Ubuntu 15.04 & Ubuntu 14.04.

“Cinnamon 2.6 reached feature-freeze on the 15th of May and was recently given 2.6 labels. As we’re still bug-fixing it and it’s all very fresh out of the oven it wasn’t officially released/announced yet,” says Clement Lefebvre. “Early builds were added to the “Romeo” section of the LMDE 2 Betsy and Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca repositories.”

To install Cinnamon 2.6 on Ubuntu 15.04 and Ubuntu 14.04, we will use the Cinnamon Nightly PPA. To do so, open Terminal and run the following command:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gwendal-lebihan-dev/cinnamon-nightly
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install cinnamon

If you want to uninstall and remove the Cinnamon 2.6 Desktop Environment, run the following command to execute PPA-purge:

sudo apt-get install ppa-purge
sudo ppa-purge ppa:gwendal-lebihan-dev/cinnamon-nightly
