Install Opera Web Browser on Linux Ubuntu 15.10

By Sourabh / October 30, 2015 Category: How To, Ubuntu

Install Opera web browser on Linux Ubuntu Systems. Download and install Opera stable on 64 bit Ubuntu 15.10, Ubuntu 14.04 and Derivatives systems. Opera is a web browser developed by Opera Software.

Opera comes with many powerful features, “Speed Dial” and “Turbo Mode” are two of its most-talked features. Opera has had a Turbo mode that speeds up performance on slow networks by compressing data such as images via our servers, so they download faster. To enable Turbo Mode, go to the Opera menu and select the Opera Turbo option. You won’t notice any changes to the layout or interactivity of the page, just smooth, smooth speed.

Please note that  Opera, Opera beta, and Opera developer are three different things. Read below to find out what is Opera, Opera beta, and Opera developer?

  1. Opera is the product recommended for everyone. The quality requirements are tight and the stability is superb. The channel only receives small stability and security updates between the major releases. A major Opera version is released approximately every two months.
  2. Opera beta is what will become our next main release. It contains the features we intend to ship at a quality level resembling what we intend to ship. No new features or significant changes are introduced between the major releases.
  3. Opera developer contains our latest changes. It is a nightly snapshot of our active development, delivered more or less as-is and minimal quality requirements. The intention is to showcase what we are working on and be open about upcoming changes to web technologies.

Opera 33 Release date: 2015-10-27

General and user interface changes

  • Opera Turbo includes Turbo 2 compression, bringing you more site compatibility when speeding up networks and more speed when watching videos online.
  • Web Audio API now supports proprietary codecs. Opera also now warns you if a site wants exclusive access to your MIDI devices.
  • Set which sites handle specific link types with the handlers section of your browser settings.

Improvements

  • Updated support for the latest Chromium/Blink release, version 46.
  • Stability enhancements and bug fixes.
