Users can install ONLYOFFICE on Ubuntu 16.10, Ubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 15.04 and other Ubuntu Derivatives. ONLYOFFICE Document Editors is a feature-rich office and productivity suite that is a great tool for offline document editing and collaboration.

The application works with most popular formats: DOC, DOCX, ODT, RTF, TXT, PDF, HTML, EPUB, XPS, DjVu, XLS, XLSX, ODS, CSV, PPT, PPTX, ODP. Users can create, view and edit text documents, spreadsheets and presentations of any size and complexity. It supports third-party add-ons. Which means, one can create templates, insert video from YouTube and do even more. Extend ONLYOFFICE functionality with integrated add-ons or create your own one. Deal with multiple files within one and the same window thanks to the tab-based user interface. Users can also connect to server and collaborate on documents with your team: co-edit in real time, review, comment and interact using chat.

What’s new

  • Redesigned embedded viewers with clean minimalistic UI. Easily upload and embed PDF and MS Office documents anywhere.
  • Footnotes. Open and edit footnotes to comment on the document or provide a source reference.
  • Equations in Spreadsheet and Presentation editors. Insert equations onto your worksheet to clarify how exactly calculations were made. Present scientific formulas and math equations on your presentation slides to visualize your report or thesis.
  • Sparkline charts. Analyze trends presented with the help of sparklines, mini charts in the background of the cell. Modify and customize sparklines to your taste.
  • New visual styles of all the chart types and rotation of 3D diagrams. Make your data visualization beautiful and more descriptive.

Moreover, Document Server’s back-end became faster and more secure with node.js updated to the current LTS release.

Downloading Desktop Editors

The latest version of desktop editors can be always downloaded using the links on the website : http://www.onlyoffice.com/download-desktop.aspx You will need to choose the installation package depending on the Linux version installed on your computer:

  • DEB package – in case you have a version of Debian based Linux distributive;
  • RPM package – in case you have a version of Red Hat based Linux distributive;
  • GUI package – in case you have a version of some other popular Linux distributive (also including ALT Linux, Centos, GosLinux, etc.).
Please note that only 64-bit versions of Linux are supported.

Installing Desktop Editors from repository

A better option to install desktop editors is to add their repository to your Linux OS. To do that:
Add GPG key:

sudo apt-key adv --keyserver hkp://keyserver.ubuntu.com:80 --recv-keys CB2DE8E5

Add desktop editors repository: using any available text editor (e.g. nano) add the following record to the /etc/apt/sources.list file (you will need to enter root password to edit it and save changes afterwards):

deb http://download.onlyoffice.com/repo/debian squeeze main

While the APT package is built against Debian Squeeze, it is compatible with a number of Debian derivatives (including Ubuntu) which means you can use the same repository across all these distributions.
Update the package manager cache:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install onlyoffice-desktopeditors

Running Desktop Editors

Once the installation is over, you can run the editors using the terminal command:

desktopeditors

In case you prefer to use graphical user interface, you can always find the editors in your computer Application menu – Office – ONLYOFFICE.
