How To Create Desktop Shortcut On Ubuntu Linux

Learn how to create Desktop Shortcut on Ubuntu Linux. On Ubuntu 19.04 create desktop shortcut or create launcher – on Linux Ubuntu create shortcut to folder or Ubuntu application to launcher.

Add Desktop Shortcut in Ubuntu

Step 1:

To find the .desktop files for the applications, go to the directory usr > share > applications. Here you’ll see icons of installed and system Ubuntu applications. You will also see the .desktop files named as application.desktop.

Step 2:

To create the shortcut, simply copy the .desktop file or icons to the desktop. Either drag-drop to the desktop or copy using the regular method – Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V.

Step 3:

Once you have places the .desktop file or icons to the desktop, double click on it and execute – select Trust and Launch when you see the dialog of “untrusted application launcher”.

That is it. You have created a desktop shortcut.
