How to restore My Computer, Recycle Bin, and other Windows icons on Your Windows 8.1 desktop . Let us learn how to restore Windows 8.1 desktop icons: My Computer, My Documents, Network, Control Panel and Recycle Bin.

The Windows 8.1 desktop doesn’t contain all the classic desktop icons like My Computer, My Documents, Network, Control Panel and Recycle Bin.

How to restore Windows 8.1 desktop icons

Go your Windows 8.1 desktop, press the Windows key (on your keyboard) and type “Recycle Bin.”  Windows’ 8.1 Search charm will come up with some results. Look for the one called “Show or hide common icons on the desktop.” Click on it and it will open a small window “Desktop Icon Settings.”

Now you can see a tab with five check boxes with one of the classic Windows icons:  My Computer, My Documents, Network, Control Panel and Recycle Bin. Activate these icons by clicking on them (the check boxes next to the Windows icon). Click “Apply”  and press “OK.”

That’s all, you’re done.

Note: My Computer has been renamed to This PC.
