How to install VLC 2.2.1 on Ubuntu 15.04, Ubuntu 14.10 and Ubuntu 14.04. Install VLC media player for Ubuntu

You can install and use VLC Media Player on:

  • Ubuntu 13.10 “Saucy Salamander”

  • Ubuntu 12.04 LTS “Precise Pangolin”

Quick install

This is the recommended way for installing VLC.

Install VLC APT Source

Graphical way – via Synaptic and Terminal

Open Synaptic application (click on System -> Administration -> Synaptic Package Manager). Search for vlc and install it. You may also want to install browser-plugin-vlc.

Open Terminal and run the following command to install VLC on Ubuntu Systems:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:videolan/stable-daily
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install vlc

To uninstall and remove VLC, run the following command:

sudo apt-get remove vlc
