InstallSkype for Linux 5.1 Beta On Ubuntu 16.10

Skype for Linux 5.1 Beta released. Skype 5.1 Beta is the first update of Skype for Linux Beta. These are some of many new features and improvements coming with Skype for Linux Beta 5.1 that is released:

  • Updated to Electron 1.6.2
  • Improved installer scripts that register the Skype update repository for you
  • Many smaller improvements and bugfixes

Please note that the old versions of Skype for Linux Alpha are being decommissioned and you may need to update to the latest version.

Install Skype for Linux 5.1 Beta

Linux Ubuntu users can download and install Skype for Linux Beta version 5.1 by visiting www.skype.com/download.

To install the Skype for Linux 5.1 Beta on Ubuntu Systems, run the following commands:

sudo apt-get update
dpkg -s apt-transport-https > /dev/null || bash -c "sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install apt-transport-https -y"
curl https://repo.skype.com/data/SKYPE-GPG-KEY | sudo apt-key add -
echo "deb [arch=amd64] https://repo.skype.com/deb stable main" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/skype-stable.list
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install skypeforlinux

Once installed, open Skype from Ubuntu Dash.
