Wine (Wine is not an emulator) 1.7.46 has been released. Here’s how to install Wine 1.7.46 on Ubuntu 15.04, Ubuntu 14.10, Ubuntu 14.04 and Derivatives. Wine 1.7.46 comes with various improvements and support for many applications and games.

The Wine development release 1.7.46 is now available. What’s new in this release (see below for details):
– Improvements in the BITS file transfer service.
– Still more progress on DirectWrite implementation.
– Support for shared user data on 64-bit.
– Various C++ runtime improvements.
– Some more support for the 64-bit ARM platform.
– Various bug fixes.
According to the changelog, Wine 1.7.46 comes with an improved BITS file transfer service and better DirectWrite implementation. The latest release of Wine 1.7.46 supports many new games and apps: MYOB V13, BlogJet, Google Sketchup’s 3D Warehouse, Lotus Organizer 97, Gox Box window, Roller Coaster Tycoon, Miranda IM, Neuro Hunter, BMFont, Oblivion, Shaiya Online, Points2Grid, Netgear Powerline 3.1, Starcraft Campaign Editor, Tomb Raider III, Command and Conquer Tiberium Wars, Steam client, msvcrt.dll, and more.
Install Wine 1.7.46 in Ubuntu
Run the following commands to install Wine on Ubuntu:
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install wine
If you wish to remove and uninstall the Wine, run the below given command:
$ sudo apt-get remove wine1.7 winetricks
